SAM.gov Registration & Compliance Checklist for Construction Companies
If you want to bid on federal construction work — or get paid on a federal contract —SAM.gov registration is required. For general contractors in Northern Colorado and Southeastern Wyoming, this is one of the first systems you need in place before pursuing federal projects.

Why SAM.gov Matters
SAM (System for Award Management) is the federal government’s contractor database. An active registration is needed to:
Receive a Unique Entity ID (UEI)
Be eligible for federal contract award and payment
Complete representations and certifications
Appear as a responsible, registered vendor to contracting officers
You can research opportunities without being registered, but you generally cannot be awarded or paid without an active SAM record.

Before you start
Legal business name exactly as it appears on IRS records
Physical business address (not a P.O. box)
EIN / TIN
Bank routing and account information for electronic payment
Primary and secondary NAICS codes for construction work
Login.gov account for SAM access
Registration steps
Create or sign in with Login.gov.
Request or confirm your Unique Entity ID.
Complete entity information, banking, and points of contact.
Select the correct NAICS codes and small-business size status.
Complete representations and certifications.
Submit and monitor validation status.
Allow time for activation. It can take several business days after submission.
After you are active
Calendar the annual renewal — registration expires every 365 days.
Keep legal name, address, banking, and ownership information current.
Review NAICS codes when your work mix changes.
Confirm your record is active before you bid or accept award.
Watch for exclusion records and keep your company information clean.
